Visiting the Health Center

Saint Vincent Health Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We're committed to ensuring the security of all of our patients. Most entrances to Saint Vincent are opened at 5 a.m. and locked at 8:30 p.m., with the exception of the emergency department entrance on West 24 Street, which remains open 24 hours a day.

The staff at the information desk inside our main lobby on Myrtle Street are happy to help you locate a patient or a visitor between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. If you need a patient's room number, a map to find a particular area, even a listing of area hotels/motels and restaurants, they can assist you.

The general visiting hours at Saint Vincent are unlimited; however, some specialty units may have restrictions. We ask you to keep the patient's best interest in mind. Before visiting, you may want to call our information desk at (814) 452-5800 to determine if the unit you plan to visit has any restrictions for visiting hours.

Sending Patient Mail and Flowers

Before you send a patient mail or flowers, please call our information desk at (814) 452-5800 to get the patient's room number. Address your mail or flowers to:

Mail received after a patient's discharge will be forwarded to the patient's home.

Saint Vincent Guest House/Lodging

The Saint Vincent Guest House is located one block from the health center and offers overnight accommodations for out-of-town family members of Saint Vincent patients.

Reservations are not taken for the Guest House; rather, rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Family members arriving at the hospital between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. should check in at the information desk in the main lobby of the health center.

Local Hotels, Motels and Restaurants

Families of our out-of-town patients can find out about hotels and motels offering special rates by stopping at the information desk to pick up a hotel rate card. Visitors who present the card at any of the hotels or motels listed will receive a discounted rate.

Meal and Snack Services

Saint Vincent has a large dining room that is open between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. each day. Family members and visitors are welcome to have meals and snacks here. Food service is available in the dining room during the following times:

• 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
• 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• 4:50 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The daily cafeteria menu can be heard by calling extension 5623 on your hospital phone. Vending machines can be found in the courtyard lobby, in the emergency room waiting area and near the entrance to the dining room.

Café Roses, located in the main lobby of the health center, sells specialty coffees, teas and gourmet snacks from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pay Phones

Pay telephones are located in the waiting area on most patient floors, as well as in the lobbies of the health center.

Automated Teller Machine (ATM)

For your convenience, a MAC automated teller machine is located in the main lobby on the first floor.

Gift Shop

The Saint Vincent Gift Shop is well-stocked with sundries, magazines, paperback books, flowers and a variety of gifts for all ages. The Gift Shop is a project of the Saint Vincent Auxiliary, with proceeds benefiting patient services and the health center. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Gift Shop is closed on holidays.

Library

Located just beyond the main lobby, the library offers patients and visitors Internet access, books, magazines and tapes on a wide variety of medical topics and issues. In addition, the library can accommodate personal laptop computers. For computer assistance, call the Saint Vincent information services help desk at extension 5868 on your hospital phone.

The library hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The volunteer staff can assist you.
