The Saint Vincent Professional Nursing Assistant (PNA) Program is available to nursing students who are getting ready to enter their senior year at an NLN accredited nursing school. In keeping with Saint Vincent’s focus on providing a continuous learning environment, the PNA program offers students exceptional educational opportunities and an important “foot in the door” at the region’s premier health system.
What Is a PNA?
A Saint Vincent Professional Nursing Assistant (PNA) provides safe, compassionate care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. PNAs are assigned to nursing units with the flexibility of being reassigned based upon your needs and those of the health center. The program:
- Helps you transition into practice by offering real, hands-on experience in a working health care environment.
- Validates your nursing skills and competency through clinical activities as established by unit-based policies, procedures, protocols and practice standards.
- Provides you with the opportunity to learn how to communicate with registered nurses and other members of the care team across the continuum.
Activities are assigned based on the particular needs of your unit. A registered nurse will supervise your work and assist you throughout this unique educational opportunity.
