Saint Vincent Health Center, in cooperation with the Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medical Training, offers an AOA-approved rotating internship and special emphasis in emergency medicine internship. Graduates of accredited osteopathic medical schools are eligible to matriculate into the internships, which are associated with the Saint Vincent Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency Programs.
The internship programs take advantage of the multiple educational resources of Saint Vincent Health Center and are dedicated to training graduates to become competent and caring physicians. Interns complete a balanced curriculum working with experienced faculty and attend a wide variety of didactic sessions. Core and elective medical student rotations in many areas are available. Internship candidates may complete a rotation at Saint Vincent to familiarize themselves with the all that we have to offer.

Family Medicine Residency Opportunity
The Rotating Osteopathic Internship is associated with our well–established ACGME–accredited Family Medicine residency program and takes advantage of its multiple educational resources and expert faculty. The curriculum for the Rotating Osteopathic intern is designed to fulfill the requirements for PGY–1 for the Family Medicine residency program. Successful graduates of the internship are eligible to attain PGY–2 status in the Family Medicine residency program. Graduates of the residency program can sit for boards sponsored by the American Board of Family Medicine. The residency program’s Family Medicine Center and Elk Valley Medical Center offer a large patient base for training experiences. Our faculty members are nationally recognized and include experts in academics, pediatrics, sports medicine, obstetrics, preventive medicine, geriatrics and pharmacy. In addition, we offer a rural medicine experience with a continuity clinic at our satellite family medicine center just outside of Erie.
Because our program is a traditional rotating internship, we also encourage students without an interest in Family Medicine to apply. Learn more about our current interns.
Emergency Medicine Residency Opportunity
The special emphasis in emergency medicine internship is associated with the osteopathic EM residency. The curriculum is designed to fulfill AOA requirements for internship training and provide additional experience for those planning to train in emergency medicine. The curriculum will not qualify the intern for advanced standing in any residency program in this specialty. Interns who successfully complete the program are expected to transition into the Saint Vincent Emergency Medicine Residency.
