Healthy tips for good sleep
- Go to bed only when you are sleepy.
- If you can’t fall asleep, get out of bed and find something to relax you until you are tired again.
- Make your sleep place comfortable (68-70°), dark and quiet.
- Consider a relaxing ritual before bedtime.
- Use your bedroom only for sleep.
- Get up at the same time every morning. Go to bed at the same time every night.
- Avoid naps if possible.
- Consider a light snack before bed time – don’t eat big meals late in the day.
- Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol 4-6 hours before bedtime.
- Before bedtime, make a “to do” list, so you won’t be distracted with things to worry about.
- Strenuous exercise should be done no later than 4-6 hours before bedtime.
- Use sleeping pills cautiously.
