Your spinal column is made up of multiple bones called vertebrae. As you age, these vertebrae become weaker. When the bone is not strong enough to support the body anymore, it collapses. The result is a compression fracture. Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are procedures used to help patients with these painful fractures of the spine. During this procedure, medical cement is injected into the fracture site. It will harden and permanently stabilize the fracture, thereby improving or relieving back pain.
