Erie Regional Medical Reserve Corps
In the wake of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, there was an outpouring of support for emergency relief efforts. Residents from the northwest Pennsylvania region asked, “What can I do to help?”
Many of these individuals were medical and public health professionals, who wanted to volunteer their services, but were unable to. Although they may have had very necessary skills and knowledge, these individuals could not be utilized because they had not been identified, credentialed, or trained in advance.
It is our responsibility to be prepared.
The Erie Regional Medical Reserve Corps is a community-based, organized group of volunteers, medical and non-medical, intended to supplement existing medical organizations at the time of a disaster. Credentials are checked in advance and kept up to date in our database. Training is available to members.
Now, when the worst does happen, the ERMRC team will stand ready to help.
The Erie Regional Medical Reserve Corps is housed at Saint Vincent Health Center.
