Gay Lipchik, PhD

Gay Lipchik, PhD is a nationally recognized health psychology/behavioral medicine expert in the areas of chronic pain and headache management. She has published 10 chapters and over 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as JAMA, Headache, Clinical Journal of Pain and Cephalalgia.  

Dr. Lipchik provides outpatient care at Saint Vincent Health Psychology Services. She assists patients and their families in coping with the emotional/psychological adjustment that is necessary with illnesses such as chronic pain disorders (headache, back and neck pain, fibromyalagia, myofascial pain, arthritis, complex regional pain syndrome or RSD), cancer, cardiac disease, diabetes, lupus and multiple sclerosis.  She is also a certified bereavement/grief counselor.  

Dr. Lipchik provides:

  • Psychological evaluation and treatment with an emphasis on the emotional adjustment to chronic illness and self-management skills for patients' illnesses
  • Presurgical psychological evaluations for spine surgery, including implantable devices such as spinal cord stimulators
  • Presurgical psychological evaluations/screening for bariatric surgery
  • Bereavement/grief counseling
  • Cognitive-behavioral pain/headache management
  • Stress management, relaxation training, guided imagery, biofeedback
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy for sleep disorders

Richard Hahn, PsyD  

Richard Hahn, PsyD, is a health center-based psychologist providing both inpatient and outpatient services at Saint Vincent Health Center. He sees inpatients and families in his office or on the medical units, depending on patient needs. The main focus of inpatient psychological evaluations and treatment is to relieve emotional and psychological distress of patients and families, especially through assisting the medical staff with their care plans. Dr. Hahn addresses the following concerns for inpatients:

  • Cognitive dysfunction or change in mental status, especially when a question of living alone or independently is at issue
  • Questions of mental competency (i.e., assisting legal process) or patients’ capacity to give informed consent to medical care/advice
  • Emotional adjustment problems, specifically their impact on patient response to medical care or rehabilitation
  • Questions of differential psychiatric diagnoses, in response to consultation requests from psychiatry  

In addition, Dr. Hahn offers continuity of care for any patient who may require outpatient services after discharge. Outpatient concerns can include:

  • Discharge follow-up service to monitor neuropsychological status
  • Screenings for prospective bariatric & spinal cord stimulator surgery patients
  • Screenings for adult attention disorder cases
  • Support group attendance/presentations
