Saint Vincent Medical Staff members play a dominant role in Saint Vincent’s continuous quality improvement achievements. Most significantly:

  • Saint Vincent leads western Pennsylvania hospitals with better-than-expected mortality and readmission rates, according to a recent PHC4 report (www.phc4.org).
  • CMS ranks Saint Vincent at or above the national average in 17 of 18 quality indicators (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov).
  • Saint Vincent received the full award of $1.2 million from the Highmark Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Quality Blue Hospital Improvement Program for exceeding patient outcome improvement goals.
  • JCAHO ranks Saint Vincent’s performance in heart failure and pneumonia above the performance of most accredited hospitals.

Saint Vincent physicians are also highly involved in sharing quality information about their services with the community.

Our quality program emphasizes a commitment to patient safety, and enhancing clinical care through a variety of tools including Lean Six Sigma and Evidenced Based Best Practice. The Clinical Informatics department supports physicians involved in quality initiatives through providing robust sources of clinical data.
