Office of Continuing Medical Education

The Office of Continuing Medical Education at Saint Vincent Health Center provides high quality educational activities for our medical staff and other health care professionals in the region. We are accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society Commission for Continuing Medical Education. Our staff is completely committed to serving the needs of our medical community.

Our regular weekly or monthly activities include Grand Rounds, Pulmonary Conference, General Surgery M + M, Tumor Board, and specialty conferences in Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Sleep Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Urology. We have a number of annual activities including seminars in Cardiovascular Disease, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Critical Care, Orthopedic/Sports Medicine, Neonatology, and Primary Care (Cross Creek Conference and Focus Conference). We also co-sponsor or jointly sponsor CME activities with regional hospitals or other health care service providers.

Each year, Saint Vincent develops special CME activities that promote physician well being and professional development. During the current academic year, a Physician Leadership Seminar was initiated offering four separate sessions that support leadership development and effectiveness. CME activities at Saint Vincent like this conference series engage physicians and allow their participation in the performance improvement initiatives at the Health Center.

Our CME office is equipped with a tracking system program that is able to generate individual CME reports for physicians who attend our activities. We also designate certain conferences that meet criteria for patient safety or risk management credit helping physicians with our state licensing boards' requirements.

Saint Vincent is in the process of developing internet-based CME. In 2006, we are planning to offer live web casting of our Grand Rounds activity to physician offices and regional sites. In addition, we will archive certain CME activities to allow for physician participation after the conference is completed.

Our mission at Saint Vincent is to attain and maintain the highest standards for clinical outcomes, service delivery and financial performance. We recognize that health care professional education through Saint Vincent CME activities is instrumental in achieving that goal.
