The Saint Vincent GN Intern Program:
The Right Start for You

Congratulations! You are well on your way to completing your courses and becoming a GN. Now it’s time to launch your nursing career with a health system that is committed to providing you with an orientation that’s both comprehensive and rewarding – Saint Vincent Health System in Erie, Pa.

At Saint Vincent, we know how to treat new GNs. We realize that GNs usually begin their nursing careers with cautious optimism. They’ve passed the courses and clinicals, but may not be completely comfortable with their hands-on nursing practice. If you feel like this, don’t worry! It’s completely normal, and you are not alone.

Building your skills and confidence in a positive, professional work environment is our goal at Saint Vincent. Our nursing staff is second to none, and we want to help you blend right in. With GNs like you in mind, we now offer the Saint Vincent GN Intern Program – a comprehensive orientation to begin your bright future with us. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A personalized, 10-16 week orientation, based on your goal attainment. Critical thinking, problem solving and clinical competency are the program priorities.
  • More than a week of classroom-based education that includes overviews on Saint Vincent policies, procedures, processes, practices and documentation and hands-on equipment training.
  • Unit specific on-line core curriculum
  • You will be assigned to an experienced preceptor and follow their schedule with them.
  • GNs and preceptors are mentored by clinical educators throughout orientation.
  • You, your preceptor and a clinical educator work together to develop your weekly goals.
  • Frequent meetings with nursing leaders to discuss your progress and needs.
  • Test-taking strategies to help you prepare for the NCLEX and nursing boards.
  • A resource nurse will work with you for three months after you complete the intern program.
